St. Alphonsus mobile clinic makes stop in Caldwell

Lemmons said by going to a patient's community, mobile health clinics can reach under-served communities who may have limited access to health care facilities.

BOISE, Idaho — When we think about seeking medical care, we think going to the doctor, clinic, or hospital and for many that is exactly what happens,
but for some going to receive medical care or a wellness check-up is not that easy.

So, the St. Alphonsus mobile units will hit the road and make a stop in Caldwell to provide primary care for patients that need It, at no cost.

The mobile clinic will make a stop at the Caldwell library on Dearborn Street on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The mobile units will have a health care provider to deliver medical services and consultation including vital signs, diagnostic testing, including diabetes testing,
ear cleaning, women's health appointments, and on-site community health workers for assistance.
All this, free for patients that show up.

Rebecca Lemmons, the director of community health and well-being for St. Alphonsus, says by going to a patient's community, mobile health clinics can reach under-served communities who may have limited access to traditional health care facilities.

"In Canyon County in particular, we saw a higher rates of diabetes and chronic diseases such as heart disease or blood pressure and we really wanted to find a way to make it easy to help folks get those things managed and addressed and to reach out to them,” Lemmons said. “We also are very interested in reaching our Hispanic and Latino populations or farm workers who may not have an easy time getting in."

Lemmons says there will be interpreters and or Spanish-speaking staff to help minimize any communication errors.

Aside from providing medical care, they will also have community health workers that can connect people with other resources like behavioral health, housing and food assistance.

Lemmons recommends, if you plan on attending the mobile clinic call (208) 367-4482 to make an appointment. If you are not able to make this clinic, below are a list of days and locations the mobile clinics will be next.

  • First Tuesday of each month at the Caldwell Library. Will also provide food boxes and other resources.
  • Third Thursday of every month at the Caldwell Salvation Army. Will also provide resources for housing assistance and food boxes as well.
  • Fourth Monday of each month at the College of Idaho.
