NAMPA, Idaho — April 30 is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, celebrated for decades. The day started to help raise awareness for shelter animals across the country who are waiting to find their forever homes.

Several shelters in the Treasure Valley are celebrating the day in their own way, helping connect furry friends with their forever homes.

West Valley Humane Society partnered with TDS Telecommunications to have fees covered on National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.

"TDS is proud to partner with the West Valley Humane Society and find loving homes for animals at the shelter. For anyone who's been waiting for the right time to adopt a pet, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is a perfect opportunity," said Pamela Hayn, TDS associate manager of field marketing in Nampa.

The Idaho Humane Society, based in Boise, has lowered the price point for dogs one year or older by $50 and are giving free cat toys with each cat adoption.
