BOISE, Idaho — The City of Boise will soon welcome a brand new fire station. Crews on Wednesday morning broke ground on Fire Station 13, located on Bogart Lane along State Street.
The Boise Fire Department's new 10,500 square-foot station will eliminate a gap and increase response coverage to the area in the city's northwest community. Boise Fire's goal is to be five minutes away from every 911 call. There were 2,214 calls for service in 2023 within the five-minute response are of the new facility.
Fire Station 13 will be home to one fire engine with four firefighters, a brush truck for the foothills and a drop-in office for officers with the Boise Police Department working nearby.
The building will also be 100% electric, aligning with the City of Boise's energy goals. In June 2021, Boise City Council unanimously approved a carbon-neutral goal for the city government by 2035 and the entire City of Trees community by 2050.
"This not only serves our citizens and our businesses for our fire response and our EMS, but as you know, the foothills right to the north of us, and that's a big risk area for us," Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said. "We will have a wildfire response out of this station as well."
As previously reported by KTVB, Boise City Council approved the purchase of the land for Fire Station 13, valued at $1.1 million. Members of the community called for a facility in the area following the Goose Fire in 2021.
Fire Station 13 is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025. It is located at 6124 North Bogart Lane in Boise.
"For too long, Northwest Boise has been underserved by emergency services, but that changes today," Mayor Lauren McLean said. "... By embracing sustainable practices, we're not just building a safer community today; we're safeguarding our city for future generations."
