BOISE, Idaho — A pair of trail changes in the Boise Foothills went into effect Monday, including a switch in user travel direction on a popular path, Ridge to Rivers announced

All trail users are now required to move clockwise on Polecat Loop Trail #81 through the end of 2024. Officials said the change is based on feedback from trail users in the City of Trees.

In 2021, Ridge to Rivers adopted a series of pre-tested strategies on four trails in the Boise Foothills, including Polecat Loop. Through the special strategies, a few loop trails became one-way, and other paths established separate days for downhill bike traffic and other uses.

Current conditions of Polecat Loop Trail #81 are dry and tacky, ready for recreationalists to enjoy. The trail is 5.41 miles and on-leash dogs are allowed, per Ridge to Rivers' interactive map

Another spring change starting Monday is the reopening of Landslide Loop Trail in the Hidden Springs area. The trail had been closed since Dec. 1, 2023, for wintering wildlife.

Landslide Loop is 2.23 miles and also allows on-leash dogs. Current conditions are dry and tacky for the trail, which provides views of the Owyhees from the upper end.
