SCHEELS in Meridian set to host grand opening on April 6

The sporting goods retailer is about a week away from opening its 250,000-square-foot store in Meridian.

BOISE, Idaho — The grand opening for the new Meridian SCHEELS is less than a week away, and KTVB received a sneak peek into the building and everything it will have to offer.

The sporting goods retailer is a 250,000-square-foot store in the Ten Mile Crossing area off Meridian. In addition to sports gear, the building will feature a 65-foot ferris wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium home to 600 fish, a wildlife mountain, a cotton candy shop and a café.

Store Leader Tyler Halm told KTVB that over 500 associates would work at the location, 200 full-time and 300 part-time.

According to the President and CEO of the Meridian Chamber of Commerce, Sean Evans, the Scheels is going to be the single largest retail store in the state of Idaho.

Expanding the Ten Mile Crossing area was part of a plan that was set over 20 years ago.

“We developed the Ten Mile area specific plan, which really outlined how we want to see this area grow and development," Simison said.

The store's grand opening is slated for Saturday, April 6, at 9:30 a.m. A parking lot party will start at 7:00 a.m. for the public who wants to be there when the doors open.
