CALDWELL, Idaho — The City of Caldwell is installing parking meters in the downtown area this week but people won't be charged for parking until sometime in May. The meters will be installed between Main Street and Cleveland Boulevard and between 4th and 10th Avenues.
Parking will cost $1 an hour and the stations will accept debit/credit cards, coins, mobile apps and digital wallets. Parking will be free on Sundays and holidays. ADA parking will be free in some spaces and there's free parking for downtown business employees along the railroad tracks.
In a news release, the city stated the meters would alleviate congestion in the heart of downtown and enhance pedestrian mobility.
"The paid parking initiative aligns with our vision of a dynamic and thriving downtown, where businesses and merchants can flourish. In addition, the implementation of metered parking offers a more efficient enforcement mechanism compared to timed areas with signage only," the release stated.
