BOISE, Idaho — Idahoans who enjoy hiking or riding in Boise will have new trails to explore as Ridge to Rivers announced plans for two new trails in the Boise Foothills.
Ridge to Rivers stated in a news release on Monday, Mar. 25, that plans are underway to build two new trails to join the Ridge to Rivers Trail System: The Curlew Connection Trail and the 8th Street Purpose-Built Trail, which is a downhill mountain biking trail.
Officials stated that the Curlew Connection Trail is a non-motorized trail approximately 1.8 miles long. The trail will connect the Hulls Gulch Reserve Trails to the Rocky Canyon Trails, between the Watchman Trail and Femrite’s Patrol Trail.
Construction of the trail is expected to begin this fall and be completed by November, officials said.
The 8th Street Downhill Purpose-Built Mountain Bike Trail is the first downhill trail in the system built for thrill-seeking enthusiasts.
The trail is around 1.7 miles long, and officials said it will be built wide enough to accommodate adaptive bikes. The trail is meant to alleviate congestion on other routes nearby.
Officials stated construction is planned to begin in 2025 and will be completed by September of that year.
“These two trails are incredible additions to the Ridge to Rivers Trail System and they include experiences that have been highly requested by our users in recent years,” said David Gordon, the Ridge to Rivers program manager. “The popularity of Boise’s foothills trails continues to grow and we’re confident these new trails will improve the recreational experience in two high use areas.”
Ridge to Rivers system is managed by the City of Boise and assisted by the Bureau of Land Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Ada County Parks & Waterways, the Boise National Forest, and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
