City of Boise ends seasonal off-leash dog program

Starting March 1, Ann Morrison and Optimist Youth Sports Complex will end the off-leash program for spring and summer.

BOISE, Idaho — With spring quickly approaching, the City of Boise has set a date for the end of its seasonal off-leash dog program. Starting on Friday, March 1, park visitors with four-legged friends will have to leash up.

Starting on Friday, dogs will not be allowed at Optimist Youth Sports Complex due to the spring sports usage and higher demand for park space. From March 1 to May 31, dogs are not allowed.

Dogs will have to be leashed to go to Ann Morrison Park, however their is a year-round treat because Together Treasure Valley Dog Island at Ann Morrison is still an off-leash zone year round.

The other park participating in the off-leash program, Simplot Sports Complex, ended the seasonal program on Feb. 15 due to spring sports being held at the park.

During the spring and summer, there are a variety of areas for off-leash dogs, and that information can be found here

The City of Boise reminds dog owners that spring is also a great time to obtain or renew animal licenses. That can be done by visiting the City of Boise website
