Caldwell man sentenced to prison for 2022 Christmas shooting

The Canyon County Prosecutor said 24-year-old Eduin Hernandez-Ramirez was sentenced to 7 years fixed with 13 years intermediate.

BOISE, Idaho — A Caldwell man was sentenced to prison on Friday, Feb. 16, for charges from a shooting on Christmas day in 2022.

The Canyon County Prosecutor said in a news release that 24-year-old Eduin Hernandez-Ramirez was sentenced to prison for seven fixed years and 13 years intermediate.

He must serve seven years before he's eligible for parole, barred from talking to the victim for 30 years, have his DNA placed into Idaho's database and pay $5,000 in civil penalties.

As KTVB previously reported, early Christmas morning, at 7:45 a.m., a person was shot following a fight on the block of 3100 Village Green Street in Caldwell. The suspect is known to the victim.

According to police, he was arrested at a house in Parma, without incident, by members of the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, who worked with the Parma Police Department, the Treasure Valley METRO Task Force and the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.

“This was a senseless act of aggression and violence that very nearly killed a man,” Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said on Friday. “The victim spent over four months in the hospital recovering from the shooting and his life will be forever changed due to the actions of the defendant. There is no doubt that Hernandez-Ramirez belongs in prison.”
