City of Boise planner takes international appointment, mayor announces interim

Tim Keane's last day with the City of Boise is Friday, March 8.

BOISE, Idaho — The City of Boise announced Thursday that after two years of being in Boise, Tim Keane, Planning & Development Services Director, is leaving his post. Keane accepted an international job, overseeing the planning and development services of the City of Calgary.

Keane's last day with the City of Boise is Friday, March 8.

“I have enjoyed my time in Boise and I’m proud of the work we’ve done with our staff and a community that cares deeply about its future to modernize the zoning code, plan for pathways and transportation corridors and to put our residents at the center of our planning efforts,” Keane said. “I’d intended to stay to continue this good work when I learned of the opportunity to lead planning and development in Calgary.”

“I am going to miss what drew me to Boise in the first place,” Keane continued. “I appreciate Mayor McLean’s visionary thinking and intentional planning when it comes to Boise’s built environment; I have enjoyed working with the committed and talented team that make up Planning & Development Services, and I will never forget the experience of exploring Idaho’s high desert landscape.”

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean went on to appoint an interim director, Steve Burgos, who currently leads the Public Works Department for Boise. The city will start looking for a permanent replacement for the position and will update the public on an expected timeline.

“We’ve been lucky to have Tim Keane leading PDS for the past two years and we’ll miss him,” Mayor McLean said. “Keane has brought such an incredible breadth of knowledge and deep experience to the department and the city. He is passionate about engaging residents as we work to create great communities and I know we’ll see the benefits of his vision for years to come.”
