Winter off-leash dog program at Boise parks ending soon

The program will end at the Simplot Sports Complex on Thursday. It will continue at Ann Morrison Park and the Optimist Youth Sports Complex until Feb. 29.

BOISE, Idaho — The winter program to allow dogs to run leash-free at Boise parks is ending soon with the anticipated change of seasons.

Boise Parks and Recreation said on social media Wednesday that due to the start of spring sports, they will be ending their seasonal winter off-leash program at the three Boise parks that utilize the program.

On Thursday, Feb. 15, the Simplot Sports Complex will end the program. However, there is a paw-sitive highlight that Ann Morrison Park and Optimist Youth Sports will allow four-legged friends to enjoy the parks without a leash until Feb. 29 due to the leap year.

As KTVB previously reported, at Ann Morrison Park signs will be posted at the park to warn users of unsafe ice areas as temperatures drop this winter.

All areas of the three parks are available from sunrise to sunset. The city asks that dog owners be mindful of their pets, and clean up after their pets.
