Emmett School District provides update on 'threat' that canceled Thursday classes

The school district said police informed them the "individuals responsible" who placed the threat have been identified.

BOISE, Idaho — After a "direct threat" forced the Emmett School District (ESD) to close its schools on Thursday, the district updated families and the community.

ESD said in a news release the police have informed them that the "individuals responsible" for the threat, have been identified.

"The threat was determined to have no risk to safety and was made as a bogus ploy with no motivation representing harm to others. Such threats, real or otherwise, are considered a serious crime and handled accordingly," they stated.

The news release went on and said the incident has been resolved and "there is no risk to safety."

As KTVB previously reported, the incident occurred on Thursday morning when a "direct threat' was made before school started, and ESD closed all schools while law enforcement agencies responded. At approximately 1 p.m., officials said that all school buildings were successfully "cleared."

The school district thanked Idaho State Police, City of Emmett and Gem County Law Enforcement for their support. ESD added another thanks to the Gem County Emergency Manager for prompt responses, support and cooperation in the effort.

The school district said they cannot provide further information than what was provided due to the ongoing police investigation.
