BOISE, Idaho — A 31-year-old Caldwell man will spend the next 20 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit announced Wednesday.
Rigoverto Hernandez was found with 19,900 fentanyl pills and 13.5 pounds of meth back in April 2023 while staying at an Airbnb. Officers with the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force also located three guns during the search.
Wednesday's news release said Hernandez had previously been convicted of federal crimes for unlawful possession of a firearm, burglary and possession of a controlled substance. The felony convictions prohibited him from possessing firearms.
The Caldwell man pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine in November 2023. In addition to his 20-year sentence, a judge also ordered Hernandez to serve five years of supervised release following his sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force is made up of federal, state, and local agencies, such as the FBI, Caldwell Police, Canyon County Sheriff's Office and Idaho Department of Correction.
“We will continue to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement to remove dangerous fentanyl dealers from our communities," Hurwit said. "They have no place here in Idaho.”
