BOISE, Idaho — In an all-staff meeting, Ada County Highway District (ACHD) Executive Director Bruce Wong announced his retirement. He will be stepping down in May.
The nearly 430 ACHD staff members got the news on Tuesday. He has been a leader within ACHD for 13 years, and is the longest serving ACHD director.
However, this is not his first retirement. Wong served as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 2004 after 29 years.
"It is time for my 'final flight' here at ACHD," Director Wong stated in his announcement.
Wong has received many accolades during his tenure, including the Idaho Business Review's CEO of Influence for Leadership, their ICON Award for a lifetime of achievements and impact on Idaho, the COMPASS Leadership Award, and the WTS International's Ray LaHood Award.
Wong's wife, Janice, is also retiring, stepping down from her role within West Ada School District. Together, they are looking forward to their "next adventure," which will include traveling for leisure, seeking out new challenges, spending time with family, and cheering for the Boise State Broncos.
"I owe all to Miss Janice and to the team of incredible professionals supporting me that made me successful throughout my career," Wong said. "It has been the highest honor to serve the Ada County Highway District and the people of Ada County."
