BOISE, Idaho — Some Idaho schools had to close on Tuesday, due to a lack of power in their buildings. With temperatures reaching, or dipping below, single digits, the lack of power raises concerns for how the outage is affecting schools.

In the Emmett School District, Sweet and Ola Elementary Schools have lost power and sent students home, after teachers contacted parents.

In the Garden Valley area, the entire school district has been closed for Tuesday, as they are also without power.

Horseshoe Bend School District is also closed today, releasing the following statement, "We have been told by Idaho Power that 11am is the anticipated power return for our school. That is too late. Buildings are cooling down and we can't make lunch. We are canceling school today."

In an update at 10:20 am, Horseshoe Bend School District stated that Idaho Power has restored power to the schools, however they are staying out of session for classes. With the heat back on, students can stay inside the school until parents are available to pick them up. No lunch will be served, but there will be snacks provided.
