BOISE, Idaho — A stretch of westbound Interstate 84 in Boise closed just before 12 p.m. Monday has reopened. The Boise Police Department said the freeway was closed due to multiple crashes and "extremely" icy conditions.

The westbound lanes of I-84 were closed for more than an hour Monday between Broadway Avenue and Eisenman Road. Traffic was being diverted off the freeway during the closure.

Boise Police on social media said several agencies assisted in clearing multiple crashes near Gowen Road. The crashes involved one or more vehicles, and occurred as drivers slid or crashes due to icy conditions on the interstate. No major injuries were reported.

"The icy conditions have slightly improved but officers warn that conditions are expected to be icy again once the sun goes down," Boise Police said.

Temperatures were in the single digits across the Treasure Valley Monday morning, with wind chill readings dropping as low as -11 degrees in some spots before sunrise. Despite blue skies in the area, Boise will only likely reach a high of 20 degrees Monday afternoon.
