IDAHO, USA — Winter weather conditions are capable of impacting the daily lives of commuters, homeowners, businesses and various operations within a community.

In this guide are resources for what to do in case of weather emergencies, as well as how to find the latest information on road closures, school closures, power outages, Boise Airport flight statuses and severe weather developments within your community.

School closures & delays

For the latest information on school closures and delays, see KTVB's school closure page here. The KTVB site constantly refreshes with the latest on area-wide schools impacted by severe weather.

Road closures

As potent winter storms howl across eastern Oregon and southern Idaho, blizzard-like conditions and slick, icy roads are making for hazardous commutes.

Gusty winds mixed with snow make for limited visibility and tricky travel - especially in mountain regions and high-country areas. For areas with an elevation of 3,000 feet or more, travel may even be impossible at times.

For the most recent, up-to-date information on road conditions and closures, check these resources prior to travel:

  •  Idaho 511 provides traffic accidents and road conditions across the state of Idaho.
  • View live traffic cameras on the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) website here.
  • TripCheck provides up-to-the-minute road conditions in Oregon and along the Oregon/Idaho border.
  • ITD regularly updates its social media Twitter page with the main travel routes that are impacted.
  • In addition to scheduled road closures typically closed for construction purposes and projects, Ada County Highway District (ACHD) occasionally provides information on impacted roads on its Facebook page.

Significant road closures will be reported on the KTVB homepage, as well as in live broadcasts on KTVB News Channel 7.

Power outages

Idaho Power customers may experience power outages due to high wind speeds and gusts associated with winter weather conditions.

If you're experiencing an outage:

  1. First, check the Idaho Power outage map to see if the outage has already been reported and is in the process of being resolved.
  2. Look for outage areas on the map. Impacted areas will appear shaded in color.
  3. If the outage map does not indicate that the power outage has been reported, Idaho Power customers may then report the power outage to Idaho Power.

Idaho Power notes that newly reported outages may take up to 10 minutes to appear on the map. Outages impacting less than 10 customers will not be displayed, according to the power company.

To report an outage in the Treasure Valley, call: (208)388-2323. Customers outside of the Treasure Valley, call: 1(800)488-6151. Sign up for updates and get the latest information on the Idaho Power webpage here.

BOI Airport

The Boise Airport (BOI) is small, yet efficient. However, not even BOI can fly under Mother Nature's radar. Whether you're arriving, departing, picking up someone or dropping them off for a flight, here are a few resources to keep track of inbound/outbound flights:

Recreation

There's is a light at the end of the treacherous-winter-storm tunnel. That is the dumping of fresh, powdery snow atop Idaho's many mountains. Boise's most popular ski destination, Bogus Basin, is the place to go for good fallen snow.

But before you head up the mountain, especially if winter weather conditions are still unstable, be sure to check Bogus Basin's website for current slope conditions. Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area also frequently provides updates on its Facebook page.
