BAKER CITY, Ore. — The person shot by two Baker City Police Department officers during a traffic stop was identified as a man from Boise.
The Baker County District Attorney Greg Baxter told KTVB the man shot was 30-year-old Justin Douglas Burkeen from Boise.
As KTVB previously reported, the incident happened at approximately 2 a.m. near Clark Street and Church Street in Baker City, Oregon. According to Baker County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), the officers were performing a traffic stop when the passenger of the vehicle they had pulled over "brandished a firearm."
Burkeen was then shot by the officers. The individual was given medical attention at the scene before being taken to a hospital, according to BCSO. Baxter told KTVB Burkeen is currently in the hospital.
An investigation is being conducted by the Baker County Major Crimes Team, and per policy, the officers have been placed on critical incident leave pending the investigation.
The team consists of Oregon State Police Department, Baker County Sheriff's Office, Baker City Police Department and the Baker County district attorney.
Baxter told KTVB Burkeen isn't currently charged, and a grand jury will review the case in the following weeks to determine if there are any charges.
