One person shot by Baker City police during traffic stop

The incident happened early Tuesday morning when the individual being pulled over by officers revealed a firearm, according to the sheriff's office.

BAKER CITY, Ore. — One person was shot Tuesday morning when two Baker City Police Department officers were conducting a traffic stop.

The incident happened at approximately 2 a.m. near Clark Street and Church Street in Baker City, Oregon. According to Baker County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), the officers were performing a traffic stop when the passenger of the vehicle they had pulled over "brandished a firearm." 

The suspect was then shot by the officers. The individual was provided medical attention at the scene before being taken to a hospital, according to BCSO. 

An investigation is being conducted by the Baker County Major Crimes Team, and per policy, the officers have been placed on critical incident leave pending the investigation. 

The team consists of Oregon State Police Department, Baker County Sheriff's Office, Baker City Police Department and the Baker County district attorney. 

There is no threat to the public at this time, and the scene has been secured off.
