American Falls man dies after 30-vehicle crash in Pocatello

Idaho State Police said a 66-year-old man died at the hospital due to his injuries.

BOISE, Idaho — An American Falls man died at a hospital after being involved in a roughly 30-vehicle collision Monday on Interstate 86 in Pocatello.

The Idaho State Police (ISP) said in a news release, that a 66-year-old man was one of the multiple people injured in a crash that happened early morning Nov. 17 because of "a thick fog caused limited visibility." He was transported to the hospital and then transferred to Utah.

ISP said the man died from his injuries.

According to police, the medical examiner will release the man's name and will confirm his cause of death.

As KTVB previously reported, police said that due to the fog vehicles suddenly slowed down and commercial and personal vehicles crashed with one another creating a chain reaction.

One person with minor injuries was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Several others were taken by personal vehicles, police said.

Traffic on I-86 was blocked between exits 56 and 59 for seven hours, allowing for emergency responders and tow trucks to assist those involved and clear the scene.

Police said they are still investigating the incident.
