Boise police looking for suspect, silver or gray vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run near State Street

A 56-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run Monday evening near State Street and N. Roe Street, according to police.

BOISE, Idaho — A woman from Anchorage, Alaska, was killed in Boise Monday night in a possible hit-and-run, according to Boise Police Department (BPD). Police are seeking help in locating the suspect and vehicle involved.

The Ada County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 56-year-old Erma Sookiyak. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained from being hit by a vehicle.

BPD stated that evidence indicates Sookiyak was hit by a silver or gray vehicle that likely has noticeable damage to the front end, windshield and hood.

At 7:15 p.m. Monday, Boise police responded to State Street, west of N. Roe Street - where they discovered the pedestrian already dead. Police believe the fatal collision happened sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

The coroner later arrived at 8:20 p.m., confirming Sookiyak's deceased status. According to a news release, the Ada County coroner classified the victims 'manner of death' as an accident.

Investigators suggest the suspect was traveling east on State Street when they hit the woman on or near the roadway.

Boise Police Violent Crime Unit detectives and the Idaho State Police crash reconstruction team were dispatched to the location to conduct an investigation.

The eastbound lanes of State Street were temporarily closed. They have since reopened.

The incident and death are under investigation by Boise Police Department and Idaho State Police. If you have any information, contact Ada County Dispatch at (208)377-6790.
