Mayor of New Plymouth out on bond, at city council meeting

York was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and two misdemeanor charges after police say he shot his son on Nov. 2.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho — The mayor of New Plymouth, Rick York, is out of jail on a $75,000 bond. He was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and two misdemeanor charges after police said he shot his son on Nov. 2.

York was back at work on Monday, Nov. 6 at the New Plymouth City Council meeting.

The meeting was fairly short only lasting around 15 minutes. Members said the 'Pledge of Allegiance,' and went through some standard agenda items. Everyone at the meeting, both council members and community members appeared to put the matter of the shooting aside as they tackled city business.

There was no mention of York's current legal situation.

According to the Payette County Sheriff's Office, York and his son, Jacob, got into an argument. Police said York admitted to shooting his son.

Jacob was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A status conference has been set for York on Nov. 13: a preliminary hearing could be held the following day.
