DEQ awards nearly $21 million to city of Cottonwood

The Idaho County town will be able to expand the city's water reuse system.

BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) announced in a news release on Friday, Nov. 3 that it has awarded a $20,213,144 construction grant to the city of Cottonwood.

This funding was made possible through Governor Little's Leading Idaho initiative and will be used to update water infrastructure in Cottonwood; like expanding the city's reuse system, constructing new headworks and completing lagoon updates.

"Water is our most valuable resource, and we absolutely must keep up the infrastructure to ensure water is clean and plentiful for this generation and future ones. That is why we made historic investments in water quality and quantity this year as part of my 'Leading Idaho' plan," the governor said.

This announcement comes in response to the State of Idaho's plans to roll out $115 million in water and wastewater infrastructure project funding. This is also in part with DEQ's State Revolving Loan Fund program. The program offers low-interest loans and grants to recipients to improve drinking water and wastewater facilities.

"These investments also could keep your property taxes low. Property taxes are determined locally but the investments we made in water and other infrastructure needs at the state level help relieve the burden on local government to cover costs of projects, improving the chances property owners won't be burdened with the costs,"  Little said.
