Police arrest New Plymouth mayor for allegedly shooting son, say he admitted to the shooting in 911 call

Dispatch received a 911 call from the city's mayor, Rick York, saying that he had shot his son in the arm.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho — New Plymouth Mayor Rick York was arrested Thursday for shooting his son Jacob York in the arm during an argument, according to police.

Just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, police dispatch received a call from the mayor stating that he had shot his son, Jacob, in the arm, the Payette County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) stated in a news release.

Police said the incident happened during an argument between the two. Jacob was taken to the hospital by his mother with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested the mayor and charged him with aggravated battery. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
