BOISE, Idaho — The 2023 Idaho Veterans Parade returns to downtown Boise at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and thank veterans from all military branches of service.
Saturday's event will recognize the 76th birthday of the United States Air Force, with the 2023 event theme commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. Also known as the "Forgotten War," it was the first major combat action of the United States Air Force after the National Security Act was signed by President Harry S. Truman.
Nearly 40,000 American service members were killed in the Korean War and roughly 100,000 were wounded, according to the Idaho Veterans Parade Committee. More than 4,000 U.S. veterans were taken prisoner during the war and there are still more than 7,600 military members unaccounted for from the conflict.

With this year's parade theme, the committee selected three Korean War-era veterans to highlight as Grand Marshals in Joseph J. Katancik, Master Sergeant Eugene C. Migneault and Donald Lee McDowell. To learn more about the three veterans, click here.
The parade in downtown Boise begins at the intersection of 8th Street and West Jefferson Street, passing the Idaho State Capitol, before turning onto 4th Street. It will then turn and go down West Bannock Street before coming to an end at 11th Street, as shown below:
"The mission of the Idaho Veterans Parade is to recognize the sacrifices and honor the services of all Armed Forces veterans of the United States of America and heighten community awareness, appreciation, and value of the military service to our nation," the event website states.
In addition to attending the event, Idahoans can also donate to the nonprofit parade committee to support its work and the services required to honor veterans through events such as Saturday's in the City of Trees. More information on donations and getting involved can be found by clicking here.
