CALDWELL, Idaho — Caldwell Police have arrested four people in connection with a stabbing that left two people injured Thursday night at a gas station on Freeport Street near North 10th Avenue. The police department said Friday morning that investigators believe it was gang-related.
The Caldwell Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers called to the ExtraMile Chevron at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday found two males with stab wounds -- one had been stabbed outside the business and another was stabbed while inside.
Police said the victims, two people identified as "Sureno" gang members, made eye contact with the suspects, identified as rival "Norteno" gang members. The suspects went outside and returned with two additional Norteno members, and the confrontation turned violent when those four men attacked the two Sureno members and stabbed them repeatedly, according to police.
The victims called for help, and were being treated at hospitals for their injuries Thursday night. One victim is a minor, according to police. Their conditions have not been released.
Police have identified the suspects as 27-year-old Jose Magdaleno, 20-year-old Marcus Magadaleno, 23-year-old Isaiah Magdaleno and a juvenile, whose name is not being released. All four face charges of aggravated battery or aiding and abetting aggravagted battery, burglary or aiding and abetting burglary, and felony riot.
"Our officers and detectives are committed to protecting everyone, even if they chose to associate themselves with a criminal street gang, like our victims did in this crime. I would also like to thank the community for their support last night and reiterate the importance of our relationship with them," said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Chief of Police, in a city news release.
In the statement, Ingram also said gang violence "will not be tolerated" in Caldwell.
"If you are a gang member and want to commit a crime in Caldwell, you can be certain that we will use every resource available to ensure justice is served and you spend hard time in prison. We will not surrender our streets to these cowards who prey on others by instilling fear and intimidation within the community," he said.
