KUNA, Idaho — The Idaho Dept. of Corrections (IDOC) is investigating a 'disturbance' that occurred Saturday evening at the Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC).

The disturbance occurred in a 96-bed housing unit at ISCC, according to IDOC Public Information Officer Jeff Ray.

Several residents began destroying property and attempted to start a fire on Tier 1 in the H-block around 4:30 p.m. Tier 1 and two adjacent tiers were evacuated during the disturbance.

It is not known why the residents began destroying property, but IDOC said staff was initially responding to a report of an assault.

Once the fire started, staff decided to evacuate Tier 1 and two adjacent tears while the whole facility was placed on secure status. IDOC's tactical team, the Correctional Emergency Response Team, was activated at that time.

State and local law enforcement partners were present around the secure perimeter of the institution while IDOC staff cleared the affected housing unit. Order was restored that same evening and residents of the two unaffected tiers in the H-Block were returned to their residence.

Those living in Tier 1 of the H-block were relocated to other facilities in the South Boise Correctional Complex. IDOC said those residents will be able to contact their families soon.

Four residents were taken to a Boise hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No staff was injured and order was restored by late evening, according to IDOC.

Tier 1 in the H-block has been declared a crime scene. While this tier is considered to be part of ISCC, the block is not connected to the facility's main building.

The Kuna Fire Department, the Boise Police Department, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police and Ada County Paramedics assisted IDOC in their efforts.

KTVB is working to gather more information about the incident. Check back for updates.
