BOISE, Idaho — We're closely tracking Idaho's number of deaths and cases of the novel coronavirus as well as what's happening as COVID-19 continues to spread in Idaho.
We have multiple graphs and timelines looking at the coronavirus case trends in Idaho, including a graph showing a 14-day average that the State of Idaho has been tracking to determine the appropriate reopening stage.
How we track Idaho COVID-19 cases:
Every day, KTVB works diligently to ensure we are providing the most accurate, up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 cases in Idaho. We track our numbers the same way the Idaho Dept. of Health and Welfare does. However, we update our total number more frequently, meaning our numbers may not always match with the state.
The state updates the number of total cases every day around 5 p.m.
KTVB updates our running total once the state and local health districts have confirmed their total number of cases. See more details about how we track regional numbers ahead of the state releasing them here.
Terminology:
- "Recoveries" are tracked by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The state says it "Is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available) based upon total cases, deaths, and any clinical info available."
- "Confirmed" cases refer to a person who was tested for COVID-19 and tested positive.
- "Probable" cases refer to a person who is exhibiting symptoms after coming in contact with a person who has a confirmed case. Though a probable case is not confirmed, the state will monitor the person for symptoms.
- "Total cases" refers to the number of confirmed and probable cases combined. We will always clarify how many of the total cases are confirmed and how many are probable in our daily updates.
Saturday, October 31
5:50 p.m.- Over 700 new cases, 3 deaths reported Saturday
734 new cases were reported on Saturday, 501 of which are confirmed and 233 of which are probable. The number of total cases in Idaho now stands at 64,608. Of that number, 56,544 are confirmed.
Three deaths were reported, two in Ada County and one in Bonneville County. There have been 630 deaths in Idaho due to COVID-19.
An estimated 29,867 have recovered.
Friday, October 30
6:03 p.m.- Over 950 new cases, 9 deaths reported Friday; hospitalization down slightly
957 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Idaho on Friday, bringing the number of total cases to 63,810 confirmed and probable cases. 758 of the cases reported Friday were confirmed and 199 were probable.
Ada County added 108 new cases to its total. Canyon County followed closely behind, adding 107 new cases. Kootenai County added 98 new cases.
There are now 56,043 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Idaho.
Nine deaths were reported on Friday, bringing the statewide death toll to 627. Three deaths were in Ada County, two in Canyon County and one death each in Jefferson, Kootenai, Lincoln, and Twin Falls counties.
The latest hospitalization data from October 28 showed rates decreasing slightly. 262 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, down from the record high of 286 reported Monday. 74 people are currently in the ICU, down from 75 reported on Oct. 23.
29,556 estimated recoveries have been made.
Thursday, October 29
6:35 p.m. - More than 1,000 new cases; Record number of deaths reported on Thursday
Idaho health officials reported a single-day record of 19 coronavirus-related deaths in the state on Thursday. Eight of the deaths occurred in Ada County, while Bonneville, Kootenai and Twin Falls counties each had two. Bingham, Canyon, Gooding, Lemhi and Madison counties each reported one death.
The state has now surpassed 600 deaths statewide since the beginning of the pandemic.
This comes as Idaho continues to struggle with a surge in new daily cases of COVID-19. On Thursday, state and local health officials reported 824 new confirmed and 195 new probable cases.
Of the new cases, Ada County had the most with 193, followed by Canyon County with 122 and Twin Falls County with 86.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare on Thursday released the latest positivity rates for the state. As of last week, Idaho's statewide positivity rate was 14%, up from 12.2% the week before. Officials said 28,542 tests were performed last week, compared to 28,777 the prior week.
Wednesday, October 28
5:53 p.m. - 900 new confirmed and probable cases, 11 deaths reported on Wednesday
Idaho health officials reported a total of 900 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The latest numbers include 692 confirmed cases and 208 probable cases. Statewide, 54,461 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began in March.
Of the new cases, 122 of them were in Ada county, 103 were in Twin Falls County and 88 were in Canyon County.
The state also reported 11 new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday - five in Bonneville County, three in Bingham County and one each in Cassia, Gooding and Minidoka counties. The statewide death toll now stands at 599.
The state has also released the latest hospitalization numbers. As of Monday, 286 people in Idaho were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 72 of them were in the ICU. The number of people hospitalized has reached a new high, while the number of people in the ICU is down from a high of 75 on Friday.

Tuesday, October 27
5:58 p.m.- Over 850 new cases, 7 deaths reported Tuesday
873 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Gem State on Tuesday. 684 of those are confirmed while the remaining 189 are probable. There are now 60,923 total cases of COVID-19 in Idaho. Of that number, 53, 769 are confirmed.
Ada County is once again the state's daily hotspot, adding 94 new cases to their total today. Twin Falls County added 75 new cases followed closely by Canyon County, which added 71 new cases.
Seven deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the statewide death toll to 589. Two of those deaths were in Kootenai County while one each was reported in Bannock, Bonneville, Jerome, Lincoln and Latah counties.
28,553 estimated recoveries have been made.
Monday, October 26
5:55 p.m.- Nearly 900 new cases, ten deaths reported; hospitalization rates continue to rise
The state surpassed 53,000 confirmed cases on Monday after 756 new confirmed cases were added to the state's total. 113 new probable cases were also added, bringing the statewide number of total cases to 60,041.
142 of those cases were in Ada County. 65 were in Bannock County and 56 were in Canyon County.
10 new deaths were reported today, including the first one in Lincoln County. Bannock County reported three deaths, two each was reported in Ada and Bingham counties and one each was reported in Bonneville, Franklin, and Lincoln counties.
The state removed one death from Kootenai County's total.
The latest hospitalization data reported the highest rates of hospitalizations and intensive care beds being utilized since March. 272 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and 75 of those are in the ICU.
An estimated 28,309 recoveries have been made.
Sunday, October 25
5:15 p.m.- Over 650 new cases, one death reported Sunday
Note: Not all health districts update their numbers over the weekend
654 new cases were added to the Gem State's total number of COVID-19 cases. 530 of those cases are confirmed while the remaining 124 are probable.
There are now 59,344 total COVID-19 cases in Idaho. Of that number, 52,329 are confirmed.
One death was reported in Ada County, bringing the state's death toll to 573.
An estimated 28,056 recoveries have been made.
Saturday, October 24
6:01 p.m.- Over 800 new cases and 4 new deaths reported Saturday
Note: Not all health districts update their numbers over the weekend
616 new confirmed cases were reported in the Gem State on Saturday, as well as 187 new probable cases. The number of confirmed cases has now reached 51,799 while the number of total cases has reached 58,694.
Four deaths were reported on Saturday, bringing the statewide death toll to 572.
