NAMPA -- Police say a Nampa man was either drunk or on drugs when he crashed his car into a home early Wednesday morning, caving in a large chunk of the wall.

The wreck happened at 12:29 a.m. in the 300 block of South Powerline Road.

Investigators say 30-year-old Joseph Rivera had been headed east on East Sherman Avenue when he drove through the intersection, across the yard, and into the side of the house.

The home's residents were inside at the time, police say, but no one was in the room into which Rivera crashed. Neither the suspect nor anyone in the home was hurt, police say.

The person who called 911 to report the crash told dispatchers the driver was attempting to leave the scene.

Police say Rivera tried to reverse and drive away, but his Chrysler 300 got stuck on a decorative rock. He was taken into custody at the scene.

The wreck caused significant damage to the home. Rivera was arrested and booked into the Canyon County Jail on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
