BOISE - Boise police said a man was able to run away Thursday after a stranger approached him with a knife as he was getting into his car.

Officers responded to a report of an assault that happened around 12:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of Malad Street.

A man matching the suspect's description was found at the corner of Malad and Owyhee streets and was detained without incident. Members of the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit also responded.

Police said evidence shows that the suspect - Martin R. Meraz, 28, of Boise - approached a random man who was entering his parked vehicle on the side of the street. Meraz reportedly had a knife in his hand, and his actions caused the victim to fear for his life.

Meraz was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault.
