NAMPA -- An officer with the Nampa Police Department is facing criminal charges in a drug case, the Ada County Sheriff's Office announced.

Jarad Layne Webb, 39, of Star, was taken into custody by the Ada County ACTION team Monday morning. Webb faces one felony count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deception, and one misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

According to sheriff's office spokesman Patrick Orr, Webb contacted the Ada County Sheriff's Office about two weeks ago to report that someone had stolen prescription medication from inside his home. Webb allegedly told deputies he needed to report the theft in order to get a refill on the pills.

Investigators indicated they found evidence that Webb was not telling the truth when he said the medication had been stolen. He was booked into the Canyon County Jail, but is currently free on a $50,000 bond.

In a press release, the Nampa Police Department said Webb - who they did not identify by name - has been placed on paid administrative leave. He remains employed as an officer with the department, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

"The Nampa Police Department holds employees to a high standard of personal conduct both on and off duty," the department wrote in the release. "The Nampa Police Department does not tolerate conduct unbecoming an officer or violations of the Idaho Peace Officers Code of Ethics."

The Ada County Sheriff's Office has not released details about Webb's charges, including when they allegedly occurred.

The felony charge is punishable by a prison sentence of up to four years.
