SUN VALLEY - The U.S. Alpine Skiing Championship races are underway in Idaho!
Our country's top alpine skiers, the people you saw competing at the Olympics just weeks ago, began their quests for the national championship titles today in Sun Valley.
Today, the first day of competition, men and women competed in the combined, which consists of Super-G and Slalom. Spectators from all over gathered at the finish line to catch a glimpse of the action.
"There's a big buzz because of the Olympics," said Terry Palmer, former Olympic skier and chairman of the opening ceremonies.
Over 100 of the nation's best skiers are in Sun Valley to compete in four disciplines.
The goal is to be named a national champion in their event.
"Means a lot to win a national title and so that's what their shooting for," said Palmer.
This year's field includes over a dozen Olympians that just a month ago were competing in Pyeongchang.
"It's fun to watch top tier skiing. A lot of these people were just at the Olympics and that's something we don't get to see every day," said Scott Larrabee.
"I thought it was going to be interesting to see some Olympians and seeing professional skiing," said Sarah Hurley.
Sarah and her friend Hannah traveled all the way from the Garden State -- New Jersey -- to the Gem State.
"It's live and it's different than seeing it on TV and you can actually see their techniques and just to be able to watch them from the bottom, or wherever you get to see them, and actually see them perform live, which is cool," said Hurley.
Scott and Jane Larrabee are taking in the action, and can now imagine what the future could look like for their 8-year-old daughter, who's a part of the Sun Valley Ski and Education Foundation.

Sun Valley hosted the alpine championships two years ago. They've spent the past two weeks preparing Bald Mountain for this six-day event.
"They watered the hill for the last three days and to do that, the man hours, you have to get out there with a hose,” said Palmer. “They did it from the top of the Super-G to the bottom here. You have to be consistent."
It’s top tier skiing that has many fans coming out to watch.
"It's pretty cool. We're excited," remarked some young fans.
There are about a dozen Olympians competing in Idaho this week.
