BANCROFT, Idaho -- A woman from Lava Hot Springs was killed Thursday night when her SUV was struck by a train.
The collision happened at 8:48 p.m. near the southeastern Idaho town of Bancroft.
According to Idaho State Police, 56-year-old Denise L. Clapp's SUV was stopped on the train tracks at the Nipper Road railroad crossing when the vehicle was hit by an eastbound Union Pacific train.
The impact knocked the SUV off the tracks and down an embankment.
Clapp, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died from her injuries at the scene. It's unclear why she was stopped on the tracks.
The crash remains under investigation.
