Couple to celebrate 48th Valentine's Day

Peter and Joan Lucier will celebrate their 48th Valentine's Day together this Wednesday.

BOISE - This coming Valentine’s Day, one couple's love has stood the test of time.

Peter and Joan Lucier celebrated their 48th anniversary last fall and are looking forward to many more years of marriage to come.

The two live at The Terraces of Boise now but were set up on a blind date by their parents in New Jersey during the late 1960s when Joan was home from college for the summer.

"So finally, I called her I invited her out and she said OK, and that was the week before 4th of July, so we went out then then went to as picnic July 4th and I was hooked at that point," says Peter.

It took a little longer for Joan to realize Peter was the man of her dreams.

She was focused on finishing her last semester of college with plans on moving to San Diego, California to become a teacher.

After graduation, she continued to see Peter.

"I think I was home about a week and he asked me to marry him and I told him no! You know that song, It’s in His Kiss? Well, no one had ever kissed me like he kissed me, and he asked me to marry him again, and I said yes, so all the plans I had got washed away," says Joan.

And the rest is history.

The couple went on to have three children.

They both agree 48 years of marriage is a long time.

The couple says their ability to communicate has played a major role in staying together.

"It's really about communication and trusting your spouse, being able to talk to them about whatever has come up and being honest about it," says Peter.

This Valentine's Day Peter says he has something special planned but wouldn't tell us.

"We have a secret plan, which I happen to know the secret, but she does not know the secret," says Peter.

"I really don't need anything, I have anything I could ever want so I say just buy me a card and a flower, just that he's still here and he love me that's what's important," says Joan.
