Get ready for a messy morning commute

If you are going to be out on the road Monday morning, depending on where you live, you could see some slick conditions.

BOISE - A rain and snow mix moving through the valley on Sunday night could make for a messy commute Monday morning.

KTVB Chief Meteorologist Rick Lantz says the Boise area could get about an inch of snow. Mixed with rain and cold temperatures in the morning, roads are expected to be slick.

A spokesperson with the Ada County Highway District says the road temperatures are too warm Sunday evening to pre-treat but a supervisor will be in at midnight to drive around and check conditions. ACHD crews will be dispatched if necessary.

If you are going to be out on the road Monday morning, depending on where you live, you could see some slick conditions.

Law enforcement officials say there are several ways to make sure you get to your destination safely.

You should always make sure your vehicle is in the best driving condition, meaning the lights, tires, brakes and windshield wipers are working properly. Officials also say you should keep your windows clear and even if you’re in a rush or traveling a short distance, don’t start driving until the windows are defrosted and clear.

Another important piece of advice when navigating a messy commute is to give yourself extra time to get to your destination. Once you get on the road, start slowing your car down at least three times sooner than you normally would and if you have to make a turn or stop, avoid sudden movements. Instead, pump the brakes gently to avoid any sliding.

Officials say you should also be aware of potential icy or trouble areas like shady spots, bridges and overpasses. Ice may form sooner or remain on bridges and overpasses longer.
