MELBA -- Melba schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a wanted man was spotted on school grounds.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Justin Scott Edde, was taken into custody in Melba at around 4 p.m., officials said.

Edde never tried to get into a school building, sheriff's officials say, but the schools were placed on lockdown anyway as a precaution.

There was no indication of any threat to the schools, according to Canyon County Sheriff's Office spokesman Joe Decker. Decker said this was "a case of someone who did want to be contacted by law enforcement."

The schools remained on a "soft lockdown," Decker said, and the sheriff's office kept a school resource officer on site for the rest of the day.

Court records indicate that a bench warrant was issued for Edde in a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession case last month.

Officials said 23-year-old Payge L. Gilmore was contacted by deputies and arrested on five outstanding warrants during the incident.
